    Exercise 1.6

    Based on: Smakman, (2014)

Do this activity together with a classmate.

First, individually prepare a one-minute speech in which you talk about what you will need English for in the future. Talk about why you think English is important for you to learn (or about why others think it is important for you to learn). Only write down key words, so no full sentences.

One of you will start to talk about his or her motivations for learning English. The other will listen whether the student who is talking produces /r/s at the end of words or syllables. If this happens, the student who is listening will knock on his or her table, mentioning the word in which word, or syllable-final /r/ was pronounced. Once an error has been heard, you switch roles. Let’s see who can finish his or her speech. Both of you get one turn only, so try your best.
