    Exercise 1.1

    For this exercise, first record yourself reading out these words with a typical Dutch /r/-colouring.

    Then, record yourself a second time, focusing on the production of an English /r/, by copy-pasting the words into your Pronunciation Portfolio, substituting all the /r/s in the spelling of the words for /É‘:/-like sounds, without making contact with the palate.

    Listen to both recordings for comparison.

    To feel the difference between producing a true English /r/ and an /r/ realised as a /w/, record yourself while reading out the words and phrases below. Make sure to follow the instructions in brackets whenever you are asked to do so.

    Listen to your recording to hear the differences between RP /r/ and /w/.
