Exercise 2.1

Go back to the poem from the introduction section.

First copy-paste the text into your Pronunciation Portfolio, then listen back to recording 2a, underlining all vowel sounds that sound like the vowel in ‘strut’. If you need help identifying this sound, visit the IPA section of the website and click on the /ʌ/ icon in the chart.

Once you have identified all /ʌ/ sounds, record yourself as you read out the poem and focus on the sounds you have underlined.
